THE PEACE PROCESS STRUGGLES ON - March 2007

Israel continues to labor under the Oslo deception that began back in 1993. In hopes that the ill-conceived Oslo Accords would work, Israel allowed truth to be turned upside down and even murdered. The scripture cries out: "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter" (Isa. 5:20).
The Jerusalem Post commentator Dan Izenberg states it succinctly: "Whether or not the Middle East is beyond redemption, it certainly seems to be beyond satire. The attempt to turn radicals into moderates, terrorism into resistance, serial political murderers into negotiating partners, and situations of total anarchy into great opportunities for diplomatic progress never ends" (Mar. 19, 2007).
As a result, brave, patriotic, Bible-believing settlers in the Gaza and West Bank have become vilified by the political leaders, the army, the police and the media. In the wake of this great paradigm shift of ideas and opinions, even strong Zionistic leaders like Ariel Sharon found it necessary to do an about-face and they began to tear down the very settlements they had once built up. As this trend progressed some 9000 Israeli settlers in Gaza and West Bank were uprooted from their homes in 2005. Israel received her only expression of gratitude from the Arabs with last summer’s Gaza and Lebanon wars.
All this new thinking has left Israel in an awful mess. The arch-terrorist Yasser Arafat, upon whom Israel had hung her hopes, is now dead. Former Prime Minister Sharon, who gave up the Gaza settlements, lies in a deep coma and both the Israeli and Palestinian political establishments are in near ruins. Still blind and groping Israel is determined to cling to Oslo and in its ugly step-child, the Road Map Peace Plan.
By now, the viper Israel chose for a bed partner (the PLO) has turned into a spitting cobra (Hamas). Still Israel insists that this "peace process" must work. It must work even if there is no negotiating partner; even if she has to make unilateral concessions and surrender the very heartland of Judea and Samaria (West Bank), her ancient home. Israel is determined to make the deception work even if she has to die trying and surrender her own soul.
